Day By Day
Day 1 Arrive Madrid
On arrival in Madrid, you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Tonight, get to know your fellow travellers as you enjoy a Welcome Reception.
Day 2 Madrid, Toledo, Cordoba
This morning, head to the historic city of Toledo, known to be Spain’s medieval capital. Join a guided tour along its narrow streets before continuing south to Cordoba.
Day 3 Cordoba
Visit the Great Mosque of Cordoba and the historical Jewish Quarter on a guided tour this morning. Later, enjoy some free time.
Day 4 Cordoba, Baeza, Granada
En route to Granada, stop in the World Heritage-listed town of Baeza for a guided tour. After admiring the many examples of Renaissance architecture, continue your journey to Granada. This evening, enjoy a tapas dinner and a fiery flamenco performance in one of the local gypsy caves.
Day 5 Granada
Explore the World Heritage-listed Alhambra on a guided tour.
Day 6 Granada, Seville
On a tour of Seville, be delighted by the royal palace of Alcazar, then visit the Cathedral de Sevilla and Giralda Tower.
Day 7 Jerez, Seville
Travel to Jerez, where you’ll visit the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, and gain insight into Spain's equestrian history. Later, return to Seville.
Day 8 Seville, Faro, Lisbon
Cross the Portuguese border to Faro and enjoy a piri-piri lunch. Continue to Lisbon.
Day 9 Lisbon
Discover Lisbon’s grand history on a guided tour. Tonight, enjoy a Farewell Dinner.
Day 10 Lisbon, Sintra
Venture into the picturesque mountain range of Serra de Sintra. Visit Pena National Palace, set within a picturesque backdrop and take a guided tour of Sintra, the town below. Enjoy lunch at your leisure before returning to Lisbon via the spectacular coastal route. During your final evening in Lisbon, you may wish to try one of the local restaurants.
Day 11 Lisbon, Coimbra, Porto, Embark Ship
Journey through Portugal’s rural countryside to Coimbra, a delightful medieval city home to Portugal’s most famous university. After a tour and free time for lunch, continue to Porto. Board your river ship and after settling in, enjoy a Welcome Dinner.
Day 12 Porto
Choose your sightseeing. Back on board, enjoy a delicious dinner.
Day 13 Porto, Guimaraes, Entre-Os-Rios
Take a morning excursion to Guimaraes, an authentic and well-preserved showcase of the evolution of medieval settlement. Back on board, enjoy some scenic cruising through the Douro Valley en route to Entre-Os-Rios.
Day 14 Entre-Os-Rios, Regua
This morning, delight in the beauty of this sun-drenched region as you cruise to Regua. On arrival, visit the Douro Museum, which provides an incredible insight into culture of the Douro Valley wine region.
Day 15 Regua, Pinhao
After you preferred sightseeing, continue cruising through the dramatic gorges of the Douro Valley to Pinhao, where you’ll enjoy dinner later this evening.
Day 16 Pinhao
Take a trip to Palacio de Mateus, located near the city of Vila Real. Built in 1745, the palace offers a wonderful insight into the lives of Portuguese aristocracy. Enjoy time at leisure in Pinhao followed by the Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board.
Day 17 Barca d’Alva
Travel to the tiny fortified village of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo today. On a tour here, see the castle ruins, and take in spectacular panoramic views of the Douro Valley and surrounding towns. Back on board, enjoy a delicious dinner this evening as you make the most of your last night on board.
Day 18 Barca d’Alva, Disembark Ship, Salamanca, Madrid
Disembark in Barca d’Alva today and travel to the ancient city of Salamanca. During a tour, see the University of Salamanca and the House of Shells. Afterwards, continue to your hotel in Madrid, where you will be able to enjoy the evening at your leisure.
Day 19 Madrid
Enjoy a tour of Madrid followed by a Farewell Dinner featuring a range of tantalising tapas later in the evening.
Day 20 Madrid
Enjoy a choice of sightseeing activities in Madrid today.
Day 21 Depart Madrid
Be transferred to the airport.
